3 Steps to Take for Cleaner Air in Your Home
When the air in your Conway, Arkansas, home isn’t clean, it puts you and your family at risk. Poor indoor air quality has been linked to numerous health issues, including allergies, exacerbated asthma symptoms, and more. Protect yourself by taking the following steps for cleaner air in the home.
Wash Your Linens and Clothes
Dust mites and pet dander all thrive in fabric. Even if you have a great filtration system, these particles can linger on various cloth surfaces, irritating your allergies and causing discomfort. However, by washing your beddings, curtains, clothes, and other linens on a regular basis, you can greatly reduce the number of these particles in your home.
Control the Humidity Level
Humidity plays a bigger role in air quality than you may realize. In particular, damp air is the perfect place for dust mites to thrive. Ideally, you should keep your home’s humidity levels at 30 to 50 percent. You can do this by using an exhaust fan to ventilate the kitchen and bathroom as well as installing a dehumidifier to automatically raise or lower the humidity as necessary.
Replace Your HVAC Filter
It should come as no surprise that an old, worn out HVAC filter doesn’t perform as well as a new one. Over time, the filter can degrade, getting clogged with allergens and letting more and more particles through. Consider changing your filter at least every three months to cut down on the number of particles that make it through your system. Even better, upgrade to a filter with a higher Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value (MERV). The higher the value, the smaller the particles that filter can catch.
